Skiathos is small enough to cross in half an hour and awkward enough that the half hour matters. These four guides are about place rather than activity: where things are, how long they take from this door, and which ones repay the drive.
We write them from the Pounta hillside, which changes the arithmetic. The old port is thirteen minutes by car and forty-one on foot, and the drive is the longer of the two in kilometres because the road goes around the bay and the runway while the footpath cuts across. Every distance in these guides is measured from here, not from the town square, because that is the number you actually need when you are deciding whether to go out again after dinner.

Questions about where to go
Five questions about the places, answered at greater length in the four guides below.
What is worth seeing on Skiathos?
The old town and its five small museums, the beaches along the south coast, the medieval Kastro on the north coast, and Skopelos across the water. From the Pounta hillside every one of them involves a car.
How far is Skiathos Town from CORE?
About 13 minutes by car to the old port, 5.0 km by road. On foot it is 41 minutes over a 2.8 km path — shorter in kilometres than the drive, because the road goes around the bay and the runway.
Which beach is closest?
Xanemos, about eight minutes by car, in front of the airport. Megali Ammos, the organised Blue Flag beach nearest the town, is about twelve minutes away.
Can you reach the north coast by road?
Only partly. Kastro is reached by driving to a parking area and walking about half an hour up, or by kaiki from the old port. Lalaria can be reached only by sea, and only when the water is flat.
Is Skopelos worth a day?
Yes, if you book the return sailing first. The crossing is about twenty-five minutes to Skopelos Town and about ten to Glossa. Pick one thing to do there rather than three.
