Is Skiathos good for a family holiday?
For beaches, yes, and unusually so: the south coast is a string of organised sandy bays with shallow entries, facilities and a bus that links them. The island is small enough that nothing is more than about half an hour away.
The Municipality describes Megali Ammos as fully organised, Blue Flag, soft sand and suitable for children, a kilometre from town. Vromolimnos adds calm water, tavernas and a beach volleyball court, and Koukounaries has fine sand, pines for shade and every kind of water sport.
The island bus runs along that coast, ending at Koukounaries, which makes a car-free family week possible if you are based on the route.
Which suite category suits a family?
Family takes four guests and Signature up to five. There are three Family suites and two Signature. You book the category rather than a named room, so bed layouts vary between the rooms inside it — ask before you book.
| Category | Suites | Sleeps |
|---|---|---|
| Signature | 2 | Up to 5 |
| Family | 3 | 4 |
| Superior | 4 | 2 (up to 3) |
This is the conversation to have with the hosts before you book, not after. The suites within a category are not identical, a name cannot be requested, and "sleeps four" does not tell you how the four beds are arranged. The support team answers questions.
How do you keep a beach day simple with children?
Go to an organised beach, go in the morning, and pick one within fifteen minutes. Megali Ammos is twelve minutes by car from Core Luxury Suites. Koukounaries at twenty-nine minutes is a whole-day commitment with a tired drive at the end.
- Organised beats beautiful on a day with small children. Shade you can rent and water you can buy are worth more than a better photograph.
- Watch the wind. The exposed beaches get choppy; the Municipality notes that Xanemos, near the airport, is often wavy despite sitting in a bay.
- Lalaria is not a family beach. It is reached only by boat, only in dead calm, and has no facilities whatsoever.
There is no bus service on the Pounta side of the bay. Every driving time on this page assumes a car or a taxi, and Core Luxury Suites does not run or arrange transfers of any kind.
What should you know about the property itself?
It is built on a hillside, so there are steps and slopes between the levels. There is no pool, no restaurant, no bar and no breakfast service, and the nearest beach is a seven-minute drive rather than a walk down.
None of that makes it unsuitable for a family — plenty of families stay here — but it does make it a particular kind of family holiday: car-based, quiet, and with every meal either out or brought back from town. If your children are at the age where a pool is the holiday, this is not the house.
Aircraft on final approach pass in view of the terraces. Children tend to consider this the best feature of the property, which is worth knowing in both directions.
What else is there for children on Skiathos?
A boat trip, which children rate above almost everything else, and the old port in the evening. The museums are small and adult in tone; treat them as half an hour rather than an afternoon.
The kaikia leaving the old port for beaches around the coast are the reliable hit — short, on the water, and with somewhere to swim at the end. Check the return time and the weather before building a day on one.
In town, the harbour front after seven is the entertainment. From Core Luxury Suites it is about thirteen minutes by car each way, so plan the drive home into the evening rather than discovering it at eleven.
What do families most often ask before booking?
Bed layouts, cots, the steps, and whether there is anywhere to eat. The short answers: ask the hosts about beds, there are no cots, the property is a hillside with steps, and there is no restaurant, bar or breakfast service on site.
- Beds. Family sleeps four and Signature up to five, but the rooms inside a category are not identical. Ask before you book.
- Cots. There are none. Three independent listings say so and the house rules say so, which is why we state it here rather than leaving a family to find out on arrival.
- Extra beds. These vary by category. Write to the hosts which extra beds a category can take.
- Steps. The property is built into a hillside. There are steps and slopes between levels.
- Food. No restaurant, no bar, no breakfast. Nothing is served on the property, and the town is thirteen minutes away by car. Ask the hosts what your suite holds for making a meal or a drink.
- The minimum stay is two nights.
We would rather answer all of that here, plainly, than have a family arrive to a house that turns out not to be what they booked.
